Great Wholesome Food



I recently purchased a cookbook that challenges politically correct nutrition and I have found that majority of their baking recipes call for yogurt. I love knowing where my food is coming from as well as the ingredients that are in it. Yogurt can be used for many different things and I feel so proud knowing I can make my own food that is also superb for my health.

The yogurt I have made is filled with numerous probiotics that works wonders in the digestive tract and contributes to a marvelous immune system. Many of the meat products deplete the microflora in the large intestines which contribute to that marvelous immune system we all would like to have. There are supplement one could take to get more probiotics in the diet but it is always best to get it naturally through one's diet. I believe this yogurt is the way to go to achieve sustainable microflora!

The fermentation process is fascinating to me and I am very intrigued by it. I don't plan on just stopping at yogurt, I want to explore other nutritious foods that I can make with the help of microbes.

Step 4

Observations: There are bubbles over the top layer of yogurt, the consistency is thick, and smells like yogurt!

Step 4:

  • Whisk the newly made yogurt 
  • Pour into individual mason jars
  • Place in the refrigerator to cool
  • And enjoy!

I absolutely love this recipe! It is so easy and so enjoyable! It's a great source of probiotics and I suggest this to anyone who eats non-organic meat! I will forever make my own yogurt its just wonderful! 

Step 3

Observations: the milk is beginning to thicken up just a tad bit

Step 3:

  • Add a 1/2 cup of yogurt from my previous batch a whisk it in with the 8 cups of whole milk
  • Put the cover over the crock pot
  • wrap crock pot with a thick towel
  • let sit for 8 hours

Step 2

Observations: The milk smelt like "warm" milk 

Step 2:
  • Unplug crock pot
  • Let milk sit in the crock pot covered for three hours

Second Round of Yogurt

Tonight I will beginning my second trial of making yogurt. My first trial went wonderfully and I enjoyed my homemade yogurt tremendously.

Step 1:

  • Pour 8 cups of organic whole milk in crock pot
  • Put crock pot on low
  • Cook for 2 1/2 hours

The Verdict

I have sense tried my homemade fermented yogurt and it is absolutely delicious! It has the perfect consistency and a beautiful flavor. I have been eating it all week long and it's wonderful knowing I am getting a great source of probiotics in my diet!

Yogurt Time

I allowed more than 8 hours for the yogurt to sit bundled up in towels, more like 16 hours.

Observations: The yogurt has a beautiful texture, not too thick nor too thin. It smells like plan yogurt.

Step 4: I will now put yogurt in containers and let chill in the refrigerator for the afternoon. Once it's chilled I will be brave enough to give it a try.
